The opinionated ramblings and muses of a weary web victim.

Well...I guess it takes/took 10 days or so of over 30c weather... but after x years of almost permanent running my V8 Coolermaster fan decided to bugger off and go troppo.

It's not like it was ever an issue.....until a shutdown/reboot ...cos I never shutdown.....

But then silly old me did.

So the fan said time for a holiday and shut up shop.

I got it kick-started one time with some compressed air and a poking or three....

...but today it said 'no way, Jose,  find some other poor sucker..'  [or in this case....blower].

Fortunatement I'd had a wee chat with yrag and he'd suggested a spiffy thing made by Noctua....yes, wait for it.....

...a FAN.

So I had just received a pair of 'em just this same day....fortuitous or what?

Now....my system was still failing to boot....BIOS having a hissy-fit that the CPU fan was having 'issues' namely it was AWOL.

So....not to be outdone I unplugged the fan from the V8 and plugged in the new trendy NF-F12 and figured...hey, no sweat...I'll just plonk it on top of the V8....it can do its blowing from there.....

And the system is a happy chappy....as I type this....fan hanging half out of the case....temps on average DOWN 6c.

Who needs to fit the thing actually INTO-THE-COOLER?

System won't know itself when I put both of them in.....PROPERLY....

Cable management has always been a PITA for me. I just use many zip ties. I would love to have a case like that Starkers.

First: all PSU cables went outside the case through the designated slot.

So that's where they went.  I was wondering how you did that. "I didn't even know they made 'em that way."

I take pride in my work.

Obviously.

wow Starkers, very very impressive ! Those are some awsome specs and you've got a killer machine going on there. Nice job on the cable management as well. I like the way you have your airflow maximized. I'm adding your pics to my "Bad-Ass" machine display board here in my hobby lab. Thanks !            -- Ace --

P.s. - by the way, I always include the specs with the pictures when I have them, you gotta know what's "under the hood" when browsing the pics on my board.

I got a laptop. Pretty fast too, all of two gHz and four gigs ram and its a dual core.

Awhile back before the bottom fell out I actually drew up plans to build a rig right inside a corner computer desk, 72" wide, 18" deep. Was going to 86 the case entirely and build the computer modular style with trays bolted to the underside for the HDD's, burner, mobo...the whole nine. Wouldn't have to worry about cooling as it would have gotten plenty of air circulation. But.....that was then and this is now so I can't complain.
