Microsoft.... it's actually polite to ask.

It's still just in the recommended section, critical updates are the only ones you need to do for security.

It may claim to be important and list as the generic "solves problems" in an utterly underhanded way, but I only install the critical security fixes without looking at what they are.

It's now in the 'hidden updates' on mine...

And it's going to stay there.  When I update this machine to Win 10 it will ONLY be a long time after it's released....so the rest of the world can iron out the bugs for me...

....and from now on I'll be ignoring ALL updates other than those that affect security.

Those are all in the recommended list, not the critical updates.

Oh, no they are not...

KB2990214 claims to be 'important'.

It was listed as a security update I believe but not sure.

I just nuked them a few hours ago, none were listed as security updates.

on Jun 01, 2015

Am nuking them on all my systems....so far 4 of them....4 more to go....then the VMs ...

Just had that nasty little tray icon show up. Even though I "reserved" a copy of win10 (why does it need reserving? is the supply limited) the little icon is still there, annoying me...

on Jun 01, 2015

It's not about 'reserving' it is about 'enthusiasm'.....same as that BS everyone went through with GMail 'invites'......"oh please give me one...I feel left out...my life is meaningless...I have no friends who will gift me one..."

on Jun 01, 2015

i hid one of them updates from last month (3035583) seeing as i know i won't be updating win 7 from this machine (going to use this licence in new machine.. whenever that is...) no nagware for me so far.

ps .. reserving is like pre-loading. (that is.. automatically d/led when it's available)

I'm just waiting to see how Ashes runs on dx11.  Then I'll set up a dual boot with a real copy of 10, see how much better it performs in dx12, and figure out my upgrade plans from there. $530 bucks should go further than three years, ain't upgrading this Space Heater 680 unless it's absolutely necessary.

Irrespective of 10, 7 stays 7.  I've got my 98SE and XP cd's still lying around for when I need them too.

on Jun 01, 2015

My updates are uninstalled and hidden. I like my 7 the way it is and don't need to be updated surreptitiously.

If I want a new o/s, I'll ask for it thankyou.

Quoting starkers,

Oh dear, things aren't exactly as we may expect them to be, thus it must be a virus and/or spmething we must distrust.

Every time there is a new OS we heart/read the same bullshit about how it isn't for us, yet every time it is just opinions without any kind of substantial backup and data to verify anything.  No, the mistakes of times past keep getting repeated and we keep cocking up because we refuse to believe we too are responsible for the mess that's been created through apathy.

OK....this time you're just plain nuts.  The issue with this is NOT whether you wish one day to upgrade to 10 or not.  I couldn't give a rat's arse either way what anyone wants to do.

What I DO care about is the 'subtle' misrepresentation of certain 'essential updates' as important to the OS/stability of the OS/protection of the OS.... when all they are is nag-ware to coerce you into Microsoft's next computer business model which apparently is not....buy it...and you get it....but....get it and then we have got YOU.

Then your life will be whatever commercial pay-per-use....pay-to-stay-working....whatever they care for.

This is the beginning of the 'NEW ORDER'.

Assimilate or die.

Resistance is futile...

and after I had removed said 'updates' AND hidden them, they were re-installed, I have since re-uninstalled and re-hidden the same 'updates' along with the 35 language packs that I had also hidden, but so far have not re -booted the computer to see if M$ is FORCING said 'updates' by any and ALL means.

after checking my system I found the update is listed as security update  KB2976978 but I removed all others and hid them for now

Has anyone heard or read what the update will do to your currently installed apps?
