The opinionated ramblings and muses of a weary web victim.

A niece's computer is 'entertaining' me.

It's Win 10 [need I say more]....

I had this idea to boot into safe mode to do an sfc /scannow... as there appears to be 'issues'.

Now, getting into safe mode isn't the problem....did that....as far as the login.

Dunno what the password is....

"Fuck it", I said "I'll reboot back to 'normal'.

So I reboot....

...and I'm back at the safe mode login.

Yes, there are ways to hold shift...while you reboot OUT of safe mode....

...but whatever options you want to try....require that password.

For the life of me I can't convince the machine to just go back to normal windows.

Either I guess the pass....or I reinstall windows?

Since when was coming or going from safe to normal ever so idiotic as now?

Why black it out if you can hi light it with your cursor?

benmanns, safe mode wants a different password than the normal user password, even the password for a user with admin priviledges won't work there.

RedneckDude

.

you are not telling me that we have to phone ms or something for that password?? (as in.. it being a ms password as opposed to user set one)

She remembered it...

Second guess was right.

This is something that is never an issue with any OS prior to 8.

Losing F8 key functionality just so MS can bullshit that the boot is faster is simple idiocy.

Absurd thing is.... a bit of command-line functioning and you can add it back...so it is not like it was ever obsoleted/deleted.

Accessing safe mode via msconfig from within windows is all well and good...assuming you can get into windows in the first place.

have a look at

that place (and the related 7/8 sites) seems pretty good for looking up how to solve issues.
