The opinionated ramblings and muses of a weary web victim.

It's been too many years.....should'a got 'em probably 5 years ago....but you know....you get slack/diverted/etc....

I've had them since I was about 15 .... I blame school/study for now having crap eyesight....used to be able to spot a Wedgie 2 miles up in the air currents [Aussies will know what that is]....but not anymore.

Needless to say things went downhill....getting the script....

First....the original optometrist has long-since moved on...so it's a new one....then they lost my history...all 40+ years of it.... then their computers went down... and their camera for photographing the back of the eye.....

Then they didn't have decent frames [as good as what I already had....] ...so I had to leave them with my 'clear' glasses....and I am now either stuck looking dimly through the prescription sunnies....[and turn up the brightness on the monitor]...or all fuzzy with the ancient glasses I never threw out...but really should....[they're NQR now]

So.... I got a week of 'making do' till the new ones are done [into the good frames] ...then go through much the same with the prescription sunnies....

And just the first lot cost me $440 so it'll be all that again for the dark lenses [polarised].

Actually....

I think I know why I waited so long....

Meanwhile....squinting at the screen typing this is an absolute pain....

It'll be quite politic if people 'tread softly' in my presence...as I am likely to strangle twits at the drop of a hat.....

....assuming I can see them....

I also need new glasses.  Mine are all scratched up and old, like almost 5 years old.  And I see a yellowish tint when I wear them as opposed to without.  I think it's because of the Transitions Lens.  But the Transitions definitely help reduce the brightness of the sun.  Hence, they're like sunglasses.

I guess no matter how well a monitor is calibrated, i'll always see inaccurate yellowish-tinted colors.

I got mine nearly 2 years ago and am due sometime soon,  I am short sighted in one eye and long sighted in the other..... it all came about when I had a glue coma and cataract  in my right eye... I hate wearing my glasses .... the optometrist I was going too was flooded in the January  floods last year, so it looks like I will be looking for another one  here in Brassall,  I get the prescription glasses but instead  of bi focal I get 1 pair for every day use and 1 pair that's my reading ones but I much prefer the graduating lens myself but they won't do that here in Queensland . I hate the plastic  frames I much prefer  the metal and I can get those free too

I am supposed to wear glasses. I was diagnosed as being short-sighted (I think) when I was twelve. They were only supposed to be for reading and being able to see the blackboard when i was sat at the back of class, etc. My first pair were great, but they broke so I had to get a new pair. The frames I asked for were supposed to be brown, but when they turned up, they were pink. I got no end of grief for them, so I "accidentally" stood on them, and told my mum they got broken during the usual stampede at the end of the school day.

I guess I should get some new ones, but that would involve going into the town centre, and I hate having to do that as much as I hate having to be around people I don't know, like say, an optometrist. Besides, if the people I've known who wear glasses are anything to go off, the glasses didn't make things all that much better, and as time went on they just needed thicker lenses, until they were wearing jam jars.

My partner tells me she'd love to see me in glasses, so I might look into getting some when she comes to visit me. And maybe pink frames wouldn't cause me quite the same issues these days (though purple would be better), lol.

Helen: I just buy my glasses in ASDA...... they are only about £7. I have around 10 pairs......lol

I didn't think a Hyperdyne Systems 120-A/2 needed glasses...

Are they proper prescription lenses? I had some John Lennon style ones that weren't proper and they made my eyes go all squiffy after an hour, and the headaches... oh the headaches!

on Feb 19, 2012

Nah, not prescription....... just reading glasses. I've never had a problem with any of them as regards headaches etc........
