The opinionated ramblings and muses of a weary web victim.

My DVD burner died in my current/new machine.

I know they're built to a price, not a quality...but I figure I've used it no more than a few dozen times in its life....but it studiously waited 'long enough' to be out of warranty.

They shouldn't kark it that easily.

Maybe it was getting all moralistic on me...as I was attempting to 'rip' my Nephew's music to MP3 [and I'd omitted to let the drive know I even had permission to do it].

I reverted to the second one....that still works [for now].

Maybe too it 'heard me' thinking I'd remove one of them to free up space for a new, swish HD and got all upset....

Agreed.  I hate throw away tech.  Sadly, most of it is anymore.

I guess the "good" news is that you are out like $20...

LOL yeh ive been having a heck of a time with LG Phones, my dare died, i had the extended waranty so they sent me a Voyager Titanium, which the touch screen did not work from the get go. Now I have got another Voyager but it eats battery life like a kid in a candy store..

hmmmmm. currently i have 2 samsung drives but i used lg drives in the past. during the time i used lg drives, i never had one die on me. btw, i didn't recommend that drive to you, did i? if i did, i guess it's good that i live here and you're way down yonder.

No....they were just 'what was available' at my fave comp shop.

In the past they'd been Pioneers...and they were fine.

The typical price has been going down.....and so [it looks like] has the lifespan...

out of curiosity - how long did it live without giving up the ghost?

bit over 18 months...but as I said...didn't get much use...beyond the odd game install....

There you go, those "odd games" will get you in trouble...

odd games

yeh I only buy the regular ones.. them odd ones scare me..

on Nov 10, 2010

Yeah...for some reason the burners seem to crap out with little use. I've had a bugger of a time saving things to disc so I just said screw it and got additional external drives and only use the burners to install something...hopefully they won't crap out for that.

Elemental must be to blame! (jk) Because the other night it killed one of my sli config 9800GT graphics cards.  Just out of warranty too!  It's gonna cost me £80 to replace.  That makes me a sad panda!!!!

on Nov 10, 2010

I have never installed Elemental ....

Games of choice are Driving/flight sims ... or FPS ...

Same experience here with LG drives. Not good

I'll be sure to stay away from lg then. Good thing I'm a long ways from building a rig. Not that far but far enough.

my LG monitor. Best looking monitor i've seen and worked on. Next investment LASER TV/Monitor... $$$$$.$$

on Nov 10, 2010

i'm with marks about the lg monitors. i've had my 24 inch lg for 4 or 5 years now and it's still the best monitor i've seen. it isn't a tn panel so it doesn't crush blacks and greys and the color reproduction is amazing.

anywho, back to the lg optical drives: i usually put lg or samsung drives in customer rigs and have yet to have any of either manufacturer die. i guess i've been fortunate in that regard. and yeah, the 'odd' games are probably the culprit.

how are those magnetic boots working for ya, paul. are they still holding you to the planet?
