Skinners like to mess with defaults....we screw up our systems quite well doing it, too. This one had me stumped.  I just could not get 'control' of the included folders in windows/web/wallpaper/  no matter what I poked and prodded. The solution is a reg 'hack' to merge...and you can regain ownership of what are otherwise locked folders/images/etc. http://www.herbystweaks.net/files/TakeOwn.zip   The only warning is that you are merging and thus altering registry ent...

October .... and It's time for a new round of Community promotions. 4 weeks away Overseas doing [mostly] non-Stardock/Wincustomize things [thanks to some dodgey Hotel Net Connections], missed handling the September Promotions as I was on a train somewhere in the Canadian Rockies.... This month's Promotions are a great bunch of people, too. Congratulations, to you all.  Apprentice: Stramp -  http://stramp.wincustomize.com/ Master Apprentice:...

OK....I caved in and dl'd/installed these new-fangled thingies.... mainly because I get people pointing and laughing at me when I have 64 icons on my desktop.... There's only so many times you can argue..."it's a flippin' Beta OS install...I'm testing proggies and am not interested in being tidy..." So now I have only the 'main' system icons staying on the desktop....'games' and 'audio/video' are hidden at a click [or two]. They're kinda neat... And so is my desktop....so you can sto...

In the latest edition of the WinCustomize Member Spotlight, we have another valuable member of the community to showcase.  That person is jazzymjr !  She has been a member since March 2004, and has been a big contributor to the WinCustomize community, especially in the WindowBlinds gallery.  Going back and looking through her gallery, I seen a great variety of WindowBlinds skins that while they have a varied style, it always has a signature “jazzymjr” look. Ta...

The Master Skin library keeps getting bigger, and the quality of these skins are nothing less than superb.  WindowBlinds skins are usually the most popular, but we have many other skins like .dreams, DesktopX themes, and more. These are some of the top Master Skins on WinCustomize.   Check them out - and enjoy...

The transfer of GUI Champs ‘08 skins is just about complete, and the last batches are from the IconPackager category.  Going through the GUIC galleries reminded of how great the submitted icon packs were.  If you didn’t check them out during the contest, head over to the WC gallery and take a look. Here are some of Island Dog's favorites.

The end of the month is getting closer and closer, but if you haven’t posted your current desktop screenshot in our monthly desktop thread, then it’s not too late.  This is always one of my favorite threads as it’s cool to see what people have on their desktop on a daily basis. If you take screenshots on a regular basis, then I always recommend using either SnagIt , or Jing from TechSmith.  They are both awesome apps for screenshots.  Check them out and let...
