For me it all started before Windows....in Dos ....and a proggy called Xtree , XTPro and finally XTGold . Great stuff...but as computers got bigger it hit the 640k limit and went belly-up in 32 bit Win Vers. Then there was ZTreeWin ....a one-man development that had 'no limits'...still a 'text' file manager...but if you were used to Xtree ....you were at home with this one. Alternate shell users [particularly Litestep ] never wanted to inadvertently invoke the dreaded Exploder s...

My old scanner died...so I got myself a new one....CanoScan LiDE 600F Fun thing is the CD doesn't autorun to show the setup/install menus.... Not on this box...or on my Lappy....but it does on my wife's machine. There's no autorun.inf ....and the files there are all appear to be for a Mac.....and not apparently executable. I dl'd the driver and toolbox...but I still need the OCR and editing stuff ...but can't get the disc to 'do anything'....short of throwing it frisby-style.... ...

I'm still getting an odd/interesting selection of 'copyright-issue' walls....simply extracted from submitted [unobstructed] screenshots. This one [the wall] was a quick crop of the taskbar and icons on the left...leaving an odd size...but a simple non-linked resize [stretch] and I had a quaint 1680x1050 wallpaper. [even the 'distortion' wasn't an issue....looks like it was already wrong to begin with and now looks more 'right']... These screenshots are still regula...
OK, so I started moderating 6.5 years ago ....about time we had a 'regular' update news/thingie on what we 'do' and what we're seeing in the queues.... One section I look at is screensavers. [I personally never use them....my screen goes blank after ten minutes of disuse....[like my brain], so there's no 'point']. What intrigues me is how one saver can be a simple 'scr' file of half a meg....and look good with it....whilst others are 36 meg installers [exes] and to use the cute Engl...
Graphical User Interfaces....... It's what we're all about....and this site has them 'all' from Amiga to Xerox Star. http://www.guidebookgallery.org/guis What's equally interesting are the 'splashes', etc....images that pop up when a proggy loads...ther's lots on this site too....EG Winamp and the Llama's ass.... Every skinner NEEDS to take a wander through that site....see how primitive it all 'was'....and how we're 'getting it right' now.... [Site images didn't want to...
